The Five Bloodiest, Funniest, and Most Entertaining Zombie Movies of all Time
69
Introduction
Like many people out there I am a huge zombie fan whether it be movies, or video games. I have seen many zombie movies, and read many peoples lists ranking their favorite zombie movies. In my mind, the best zombie movies have a good mix of violence, comedy, and suspense. If you disagree with the order of my list, would like to suggest another great zombie movie, or even list your five favorite zombie movies feel free to do so in the comments section. Well here it goes...
5. Night of the Living Dead
This was the film that started it all. Shot in black and white on a very low budget. The majority of the movie takes place in a farmhouse, and the zombies are slow and not very scary compared to the highly realistic zombies that we all see today. You have to give Night of the Living Dead credit though, it gave the American audience something new to be scared of. Also if George A. Romero wasn't on this list at least once it wouldn't be worth reading.
4. Zombieland
Zombieland is best described as hilariously violent. The acting is superb, featuring moments of horror, comedy, and even a couple sad scenes. The movie is well thought out and you have to love the style. There is no wasted 'waiting' time and you are constantly entertained. The zombie rules alone make this film an instant classic.
3. 28 Days Later
This English film does the best job out of any zombie movie convincing the audience that what they are watching is real. You will feel strong emotional ties with the main character as he struggles to cope with the new world he finds himself in and root for him. This film does a great job showing the best, and the worst of human nature when people are placed in extraordinary situations. The scene with the crow is pure genius, while simultaneously being heart wrenching.
2. Dead Snow
When someone told me to watch this movie on Netflix Instant I was extremely skeptical. When I realized the movie was in Norwegian I thought that I wouldn't be able to experience the suspense or horror as well because I would be reading captions. Wrong! This movie is superb both in acting and cinematography. The setting of an isolated cabin in the mountains seems over used but this film takes it to a whole new level. Featuring some great special effects and gratuitous violence hardcore zombie fans won't be disappointed. This film also features some creative new uses for snowmobiles...
1. Dead Alive
When I read about a 1992 gore fest directed by infamous Peter Jackson I knew I had to see it. I spent the next hour and a half laughing while I lost my appetite. The main character, and his mother are absolutely hilarious. The plot is absurd, but you have to love it. The movie is not supposed to be taken seriously, its supposed to leave you wondering for the next week "did I really see that." Honestly, to make this movie Peter Jackson must have used hundreds of gallons of red dye and corn syrup. Even though this movie is almost twenty years old, and completely ridiculous you have to love it. Believe me, you won't be able to forget it.
Honorable Mentions
Fido, Shawn of the Dead, and Dawn of the Dead (the original) are also great.

It is amazing to me that the man who directed Dead Alive and Bad Taste went on to create King Kong and the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. pretty inpressive Peter Jackson.
Zombieland was okay but for humor in a zombie film you can't beat Fido. Well I suppose since he is your personal property bought and paid for you can beat him if you wish.
I enjoyed your hub.
